Publisher's own website to stream game demos via the cloud service

Capcom joins Gaikai rush

Capcom has become the latest firm to partner with on-demand cloud gaming service Gaikai.

The deal will allow US web users to play Capcom games such as the latest Resident Evil and Street Fighter titles through their internet browser.

Gaikai pays affiliates to host Gaikai-streamed games on their websites. The idea is that publishers can showcase upcoming games to customers by allowing them to play demos instantly from the cloud. Companies already signed up to the service include EA and Eurogamer.

Capcom game demos will be playable on Capcom websites as well as through Gaikai’s affiliate network.

The news comes after Gaikai set itself the goal of reaching 10m monthly active users through its affiliates programme.

“Capcom produces some of the industry’s most unique franchises, consistently leading their genres with the highest quality,” said Gaikai’s senior VP of interactive entertainment Robert Stevenson.

“And as a forward thinking publisher who has had great success in the digital space, we’re excited to be working closely with them on such properties.”

Gaikai recently struck a deal with US retailer Walmart which will see the Walmart website host game demos.

Rival cloud gaming service OnLive allows users to buy and download games using a microconsole. It is due to launch in the UK later this year.
