Chillingo opens office in China

EA’s mobile publishing label Chillingo has set up shop in China in EA’s Shanghai office.

The new studio – Chillingo China – will be publishing mobile titles over Chinese app stores, as well as bringing ‘culturised’ games from the region to the global market.

China represents a tremendous growth opportunity, both for Chillingo and for developers making it a natural location to extend our services,” said Mike Chen, Chillingo China’s head of production.

China has the largest install base of connected mobile devices of any country in the world combined with an avid gaming audience and a dynamic talent pool—a golden opportunity that Chillingo would love to seize.”

Chillingo GM Ed Rumley added: Indie developers across the globe are united on the challenges they face in today’s competitive mobile space. Striking the right balance between creating a fun, unique gaming experience and earning a profit is difficult for many developers.

Putting players first goes a long way towards achieving that. Our Chillingo team is excited to learn from and collaborate with the phenomenal powerhouse talent in China to bring unparalleled opportunities to talented developers of all sizes.”
