The Edinburgh gathering offers a lot more than just competition

Dare 2010 ProtoPlay: The event in full

While Dare 2010 ProtoPlay’s main competition element is a hugely important part of the event, there’s a lot more taking place at the three day show.

ProtoPlay, which takes place at Edinburgh’s EICC from 13-15 August between 10am-6pm, is Scotland’s biggest free video gaming education and consumer event. It offers attendees not only a chance to check out the grass roots talent striving to define the future of games development, but a range of sessions, workshops and a chance to get hands on time with publishers’ new releases.

Speakers from Rare, Adobe, Abertay, BAFTA and Intel are set to address audiences on topics as diverse getting a job in the industry, the worth of games education, and an inside look at developing for Kinnect.

Meanwhile the Dare Dare/BAFTA Video Games Workshop gives serious young participants the chance to learn the skills of developing a video game in a mock-up studio. Those interested in the workshops and industry sessions should book in advance to avoid disappointment.

The Scottish arm of Global Game Jam, the popular 48 hour competition to develop video games, is also stopping off at this year’s ProtoPlay.

Title’s including Kinect Sports by Microsoft, Adult Swim by Turner Broadcasting, Blitz 1UP’s range of indie games, and Denki’s new Xbox 360 game Juggle will also be available to play, amoung others

And, of course, ProtoPlay is to showcase the finished prototypes created by the teams who have taken place in this year’s highly regarded Dare to be Digital development contest.

Except the video games workshop, everything at Dare 2010 ProtoPlay is free. Click here to visit the event’s official website.

If you’re going, Develop will see you there.
