Dark Souls Remastered coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC

Today’s Nintendo Direct Mini ended with confirmation of recent rumours that Dark Souls would be making a series debut on the Switch this year. Dark Souls Remastered will be out for the platform on 25th May, according to the very brief announcement teaser (see below). The official Dark Souls Twitter account has also confirmed that the game will be coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC.

This remastered version of the maligned and revered (often in the same breath) 2011 action RPG will feature the Artorias of the Abyss DLC, which includes one of the most celebrated boss encounters of the entire franchise. It will also feature improved framerate (60FPS) and 4K resolution when playing on a PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and PC, something original PS3 players will agree is badly needed.

The move to bring Dark Souls to a portable platform is a dangerous one, considering the addiction levels of some fans, and one that raises some interesting questions about the game’s online features. These are a core part of the experience and one that could be entirely lost if played somewhere without an internet connection (planes, trains and automobiles). But something the always-there portability of a Switch version could easily make up for.
