Deep Silver bringing crowd-funded Wasteland 2 to retail

Koch Media’s publishing label Deep Silver will distribute Wasteland 2, a post-apocalyptic adventure funded by Kickstarter.

The game is the sequel to the 1988 PC RPG Wasteland by Interplay Productions and EA, which inspired Interplay’s later series Fallout.

Wasteland 2 is in development at inXile Entertainment, a studio set up by Interplay founder Brian Fargo, and was one of the most successful crowd-funding projects of last year, raking in $2.933m.

inXile has now signed a deal with Deep Silver to have the Dead Island publisher distribute the game at retail when it is released, according to Eurogamer. Deep Silver will also help distribute the promised Kickstarter rewards.

However, creative control will remain with inXile Entertainment.

"This is a perfect opportunity for inXile: it allows us to continue to focus all of our energy and money into the creative aspects of the game while letting Deep Silver take our game outside of the pure digital space.

"I’ve know the people at Deep Silver for many years and they have always been a first-rate organisation to deal with."
