Grand Theft Auto V developer recognised for outstanding success

Develop Awards 2014: Rockstar North named Studio of the Year

Rockstar North has been named as Studio of the Year at the Develop Awards 2014.

The Edinburgh-based studio is the first team to win the new award. The prize was awarded for Rockstar’s enormous success with the release of Grand Theft Auto V, which has broken a number gaming and entertainment records.

The blockbuster hit made $1 billion in just three days, the fastest selling entertainment product ever. It beat films such as The Avengers, which took 19 days to make the same amount. To date the critically acclaimed title has shipped 29 million copies.

Taking to the stage, the Rockstar North team also dedicated the award to the other Rockstar studios, who have all played a part in its success.

As well as Studio of the Year, the team was named best In-house Studio and won the award for Visual Arts for GTA V’s stunning graphics. Faceware Technologies also won the award for Creative Contribution: Visuals for its work on the title.
