Valve receives Publishing Hero award with message for its dev partners

DEVELOP AWARDS VIDEO: Newell hails Steam indies

Valve president Gabe Newell has applauded the fleet of developers who help make Steam an industry leading digital platform.

This week at the 2011 Develop Industry Excellence Awards, the Steam vendor won the Publishing Hero accolade.

The category was fiercely contested, with nominations going to Channel 4, Electronic Arts, Lockwood Publishing, Microsoft, Namco Bandai and Sony.

But Valve won the award after another extraordinary twelve months publishing the most important games on PC. Valve also strongly promoted a number of indie games during the promotional campaign for its most important game of 2011; Portal 2.

“This award really is for all the independent game developers we work with,” Newell said.
