From Software’s tough RPG Dark Souls III has seen the Japanese studio replace Ubisoft Massive as last month’s most successful developer.
Dark Souls III was the best-selling title during April in the UK, resulting in From rocketing from 43rd place in GfK’s monthly developer value charts to the top spot.
Massive Entertainment, the Ubisoft-owned creator behind The Division, was subsequently toppled to third – the same place occupied by its open-world shooter in the software sales rankings.
Meanwhile, filling the gap, EA Canada retained its second place position, thanks to the continuing popularity of EA Sports UFC 2, which was seventh in the software charts.
One surprise may be the placing of Remedy Entertainment. Despite Quantum Break becoming the fifth-best-selling game of April, the Finnish developer only managed to match that number in the studio charts.
This left it behind racing specialist Codemasters, which claimed fourth position thanks to the success of Dirt Rally, which also took fourth in the software rankings.
Ratchet and Clank outlet Insomniac Games arrived in sixth position thanks to the launch of its franchise reboot, no doubt helped by the accompanying feature film’s release in cinemas.
Completing the rest of the Top Ten was LEGO series developer Traveller’s Tales, falling to seventh from fourth, February’s top dog Ubisoft Montreal, down to eighth from a podium position in third, Call of Duty: Black Ops III creator Treyarch, sliding three spaces to ninth, and Top Ten mainstay Rockstar, which clung on to tenth place.
The studios are measured by UK revenue at retail, with data provided by GfK Chart-Track. Digital sales are not included in the calculations, nor are retail transactions made outside the UK.
