E3 2014: Rainbow Six resurfaces as Siege

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six will return as Rainbow Six: Siege, a title that focuses on small raids to rescue hostages.

The game was unveiled at the end of Ubisoft’s E3 press conference by the publisher’s CEO Yves Guillemot.

In the demo shown, two teams of five players competed in a residential home. One team was tasked with rescuing and extracting the hostage before the timer ran out, while the other had to hold the hostage and fend off the first team.

The game is clearly in development for the new generation consoles and PC, with highly destructible scenery – at one point, the hostage rescue team was able to blow a hole in the floor and walls in order to ambush the terrorists.

While the reveal was impressive, it’s not yet clear where Rainbow Six: Patriots fits into all this. The shooter was unveiled a couple of years back, but has reportedly met a lot of development troubles and had to be redesigned.

It’s a safe bet that Rainbow Six: Siege is the result of that, although there’s nothing to prove that Ubisoft isn’t still working on Patriots in some form.

No more details were given on the game, such as release date, formats or who is developing it.
