EA exec says Xbox One is ‘catching up quickly’ with PS4

The rate at which Xbox One is narrowing its sales gap behind PS4 is accelerating.

That’s according to EA CFO Blake Jorgensen, who Gamasutra reports told an audience at the UBS Global Technology Conference that: "Clearly Sony has jumped out to a lead with a great console and I think a great pricing strategy [but] Microsoft is catching up quickly.

"Pricing actions that are taking place, particularly during this Christmas season, driven by Microsoft, around reduction plus a lot of bundled software, I think will continue to pull the consumer into the new consoles."

Microsoft recently revealed that it has now shipped 10m Xbox Ones globally. While the number of sales remains unknown – and is certainly well behind PS4’s 13.5m – it’s clear that the previous 3-to-1 sales ratio no longer remains.

None of which is to say that PS4 isn’t in a strong position. Despite being outsold by Xbox One for two weeks on the trot in the US recently, in October PS4 outsold its rival for the tenth month in a row in the US.
