EA hosting event discussing LGBT issues in gaming

An event discussing LGBT issues in video gaming called EA Full Spectrum is taking place today in New York.

EA Full Spectrum will bring together leaders from the LGBT and videogame community to talk about the state of hate in videogames, the origins of homophobia in games, the development of authentic LGBT characters and whether our industry is doing enough to combat hate,” the event’s site reads.

Speakers include Tencent’s Gordon Bellamy, BioWare Austin GM Matt Bromberg and gay rights advocate Brendon Ayanbadejo of NFL team the Baltimore Ravens.

EA has been notably proactive in the area of gay rights and equality.

The Human Rights Campaign last year gave it a 100 per cent rating in its LGBT workplace equality report. EA also leant its backing to gay-gaming event Gaymercon.

It also attracted praise from the likes of Stephen Fry and Charlie Brooker for the balanced it approach to same-sex relationships in BioWare titles such as Star Wars: The Old Republic.
