EA opens eSports division, headed by Peter Moore

Current EA COO Peter Moore has landed a new role at the publisher, heading up a brand new eSports division.

Its official name is the EA Competitive Gaming Division (CGD), and Moore’s new title is Executive Vice President and Chief Competition Officer. His aim is to further the eSports aspirations of titles such as FIFA, Madden and Battlefield.

Reporting to Moore will be Todd Sitrin, a marketer who has been at EA for 14 years. He assumes the role of senior VP and GM.

EA boss Andrew Wilson has said the new business will be build around thee principles – competition, community and entertainment.

There is no one better in our industry to lead this new effort than Peter,” Wilson said. He was an early pioneer in championing competitive gaming programs, such as the FIFA Interactive World Cup and the EA Sports Challenge Series, and Peter’s personal passions for the player experience, sports and competition, make him a tremendous leader for this new division.

Peter’s team will partner with our development studios, marketers and publishing teams to bring this new platform to life. Peter will continue to lead his current organization through the end of FY16 before shifting full time to his new position.”

In October Activision announced the opening of its own eSports division headed up by former ESPN CEO Steve Bornstein and MLG co-founder Mike Sepso.
