Game Education Summit will hear from one of EAâ??s first employees and designer of the seminal Madden series

EA veteran to keynote GES

Electronic Arts Chief Creative Director Richard Hilleman has been announced as a keynote speaker for the upcoming Game Education Summit (GES).

Hilleman was one of Electronic Arts’ first twenty employees. He joined the company in 1982 and worked on the very first Madden Football project, a seminal game that in many ways sparked a franchise and a genre at the same time. Hilleman went on to sustain the growth of EA Sports, a brand that has grown to significant prominence in the last two decades.

GES will take place from June 16 – 17 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Hilleman will provide a keynote on the second day of the event while Professor Don Marinelli – Executive Producer at Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) – will provide a keynote on the first.

According to organisers Game Path, the event is the only one of its kind as it’s positioned to allow industry executives and course lecturers to consult on how to best educate the next generation of game designers.

“Across the country, universities are investing heavily to build curriculum to teach the game designers of tomorrow,” GES director Mark Chuberka recently said.

“But game instruction is still a relatively new field. This conference brings instructors together with industry professionals to talk about what skills students need and to hear the top instructors discuss teaching methods and cutting edge theory.”
