GameStop buys into Jolt

Global High Street video games retailer GameStop has acquired a stake in Irish online games network Jolt.co.uk in a move that it hopes will better position it for the future and the rise of digitally distributed content.

Jolt will allow us to test digital distribution,” Gamestop’s executive VP of merchandising and marketing Tony Bartel stated, as reported by PaidContent.

We like the business model of being able to take IP from publishers, and then help them sell it when they port it to the browser space.”

Speaking to sister site CasualGaming.biz earlier this year, Jolt CEO Dylan Collins stated that: Our focus is on the North American and UK markets, and with titles which we can acquire or develop with a well-known license.”
