'We see a huge opportunity to reach an entirely different audience'

Insomniac signs with EA in Facebook game deal

California studio Insomniac is months away from launching its first Facebook game as part of an extended agreement with Electronic Arts.

In recent years the studio worked exclusively with Sony, on PlayStation franchises such as Ratchet & Clank and Resistance, but has since signed a multi-platform EA Partners deal.

As part of that agreement, an action game for consoles, called Overstrike, is scheduled to be published on consoles later this year.

But EA will also launch the group’s first game for social networks, called Outernauts, at some stage this summer.

"We see a huge opportunity to reach an entirely different audience of gamers through Facebook," said Insomniac founder Ted Price.

"As we have demonstrated for nearly twenty years in the console games space, we’re confident we can help evolve the definition of a game experience on Facebook. With Outernauts, we are delivering a deep story with real RPG strategy, coupled with Insomniac’s signature sense of humor."
