JAPAN: PS3 tops hardware charts

The arrival (and, indeed,

solid success

) of Sega’s next-gen RPG brawler Yakuza 3 in Japan has seen Sony’s PS3 recapture the top spot in the Japanese hardware sales charts.

Media Create numbers show that PS3 sold 36,513 units in the week ending March 1st, ever so slightly ahead of the sales of Nintendo’s recently released DSi, which sold 35,827 units – it’s lowest weekly sales since its release.

It was a close run for the third spot, too, with Sony’s resurgent PSP just falling short of DSi, with weekly sales of 35,588 machines.

Wii was next up with 17,876 units sold and Xbox 360 fifth with sales of 11,795 – ever so slightly ahead of the DS Lite with11,774 units sold.
