Jason Holtman joins Microsoft

Former Valve head of Steam Jason Holtman has joined Microsoft.

Holtman, who left Valve as a wave of staff were reportedly laid off, will assume a role related to PC gaming and entertainment strategy, reports GI.biz. Holtman is believed to of already assumed his new position.

"Yes, I have joined Microsoft where I will be focusing on making Windows a great platform for gaming and interactive entertainment," Holtman told the website.

"I think there is a lot of opportunity for Microsoft to deliver the games and entertainment customers want and to work with developers to make that happen, so I’m excited to be here," he added.

Holtman had served as head of Steam at Valve for eight years, building the platform into what it is today. The exec has also acted as one of the company’s primary points of contact for devs using Valve’s digital distribution platform, playing a key role in developer relations at the studio.

Develop will report more as soon has Holtman’s role at Microsoft – which has primarily focused on its console business in the wake of the Xbox One announcement – as soon as more becomes available.
