E3'09: Studio boss talks to Develop about games/movie cross overs, Star Wars... and Monkey Island

LucasArts president Darrell Rodriguez: The First Interview

LucasArts president Darrell Rodriguez has broken his year-long silence and given his first major interview since taking the role to Develop.

Setting forth the company’s new push for exploiting its back catalogue of IP, Rodriguez confirms the rumoured Monkey Island remake, now titled The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition – as well as the desire to resuscitate more of its IP line-up.

“We’ve put an IP pipeline in the works,” Rodriguez says, “with a team dedicated to creating new IP, and new ways to reinvigorate some of our favourite heritage products, such as the Monkey Island franchise. What the team is doing with that beloved franchise is remarkable, and I can’t wait for fans to get their hands on it.”

“Monkey Island is core to what LucasArts is about – it has a great story, great characters and was innovative for its time. I find it inspirational and I know the team does as well. Our history of innovation and storytelling is something I want to bring to the forefront of LucasArts.”

More from Rodriguez – including the Lucas Group’s synergy on The Clone Wars and the Force Unleashed collaboration between LucasArts and ILM – can be found here.
