Mass Effect 3’s female marketing spin

EA and BioWare is giving Commander Shepard’s female iteration a stint in the limelight when Mass Effect 3 is released.

The developer’s marketing director David Silverman confirmed that Ms Shepard – or "FemShep" as she’s known to the fans – will star in an official trailer leading up to the game’s launch, and will also appear on the cover for the collector’s edition, according to Kotaku.

To date, all of the marketing, screenshots and cover art for the first two Mass Effect titles have featured the default male Commander Shepard.

While the decision to integrate the fan-favourite female Shepard into the campaign is sure to resonate well with the series’ loyal following, it is also goes some way to help EA’s efforts to expand this audience and reach out to the mainstream.

Mass Effect 3 is due for release on March 6th, 2012 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
