Metal Gear Solid film secures screenwriter

Sony Pictures has hired screenwriter Jay Basu to pen its upcoming movie adaptation of Metal Gear Solid.

Deadline has the news, with the report describing Basu as in-demand,” despite only having a few projects under his belt.

Basu co-wrote Monsters: Dark Continent for Vertigo Films (currently in post-production) and was recently signed by Universal Pictures to help reboot its classic monster movie catalogue.

The Metal Gear Solid film – which has been in discussion for nearly five years – is being produced by Avi and Ari Arad, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts as director. No word on a premiere date at this time.
