Senior software engineer needed to "push the envelope of today's and tomorrow's technology'

Microsoft recruiting for mysterious ‘top secret’ project

The Xbox division at Microsoft is currently hiring for a senior software engineer, but what they will be working on remains "top secret".

"You may not know what your new project is until you’ve accepted an offer," the job listing reads.

Spotted by NeoGAF, the listing calls for someone experienced in creating quality code, shipping products and technical leadership, having shipped at least one consumer-focused product and with multiple side projects that can "showcase your creativity".

The only clue as to what this team will be working on is Microsoft’s goal to "push the envelop of today’s and tomorrow’s technology". It is also hinted that it could be related to Kinect.

"If you’re passionate about the potential for Kinect to continue to revolutionise entertainment," the listing continues, "and are a seasoned software engineer with the skills to prototype and build the future of premium Kinect-powered experiences, we have a growing team of talented people who want to take entertainment into the future".

Other clues include references to machine vision, data mining, AI, voice recognition and embedded systems.

It’s easy to assume this will be some form of follow-up or successor to the Kinect, but given the mixed reception to the original device – and the fact that Microsoft removed it from the standard Xbox One bundle – it’s questionable how much stock the company puts in the device’s future.

Either way, the final project is likely to be an add-on for the Xbox One, or perhaps its distant successor.
