Microsoft resurrects dead Gamertags

A wealth of Gamertags that were previously taken are now available to Xbox 360 owners.

Microsoft is currently sifting through the dead or unused accounts on its servers to free up any Xbox Live identities that were tied to them, according to Major Nelson.

The Xbox icon warned: This process will take some time to complete, and no we can’t tell you when the Gamertag you want might be available. If you are interested, you should check back regularly as we are reviving Gamertags daily.”

To access these resurrected Gamertags, consumers simply have to log in to the My Xbox channel on the console and then select ‘Change Gamertag’. From here they can register a specific identity, or use the random name generator to choose from the revived ones.
