Microsoft: We won E3

It’s not the twinning but the taking part that counts, right? Nope. How you win or lose something like E3 is hard to fathom, but the reaction to Microsoft’s conference was certainly positive – so much so that the Xbox 360 platform holder seems happy to declare victory.

I think we won,” Microsoft Games Studios boss Shane Kim told Venturebeat. It’s not just me saying that. It’s pretty universal.

We had something very special, starting with the games portfolio. We had a lot of content for a normal E3 briefing. But Project Natal doesn’t come along every year, and it is very difficult to match.”

Kim went on to explain that he believes the Xbox 360 can enjoy the same ten-year life-cycle that Sony so proudly touts for its hardware.

We firmly believe that the Xbox 360 has a life cycle through 2015,” he stated. Project Natal is a great innovation. It will work with every Xbox 360 sold. It’s not about pushing more pixels on the screen. It’s about how to break down barriers that stop people from playing games.”

Project Natal is not due out until mid 2010. Sony has previously stated its motion technology will be ready for spring.
