Minecraft beats out GTA for top gaming franchise on Youtube

A new study on YouTube gaming franchises draws one inevitable conclusion: There’s Minecraft, and there’s everyone else.

NewZoo and Octoly’s infographic (shown below) ranks the top 20 gaming franchises on the popular video-sharing website, and it’s little surprise to see Mojang’s title out in front. Research also shows that 96.6 per cent of views in the top 20 came from videos made by fans.

Minecraft accounted for 41 per cent of the total views accumulated by the 20 franchises, tripling runner-up Grand Theft Auto at 14 per cent. The rest of the 18 titles behind the top two combined for the remaining 45 per cent, with FIFA in third place at just 6 per cent.

The study was put together based on aggregated data from ongoing tracking of more than 4m game-focused channels on Youtube. NewZoo and Octoly intend to update the rankings each month.
