Consolidated revenues down by a third, financial documents show

Mobile still less than a tenth of Capcom business

Capcom made about £33.3 million from its mobile and tablet games in the final nine months of the calendar year, company data shows.

Financial documents issued by the Tokyo headquartered publisher reveal that mobile revenues have grown 68 per cent year on year.

But overall the company recorded weaker annual sales and profits. For the nine months that ended December 31st, Capcom’s pre-tax profits dropped by half to about £30 million. Total sales, meanwhile, fell by about a third to £417 million.

Mobile has become an area of growth for Capcom, with popular free-to-play games such as Smurfs Village and Snoopy’s Street Fair. But the smartphone and tablet sector amounted to less than a tenth of total revenues.

Capcom is building major updates to its Resident Evil and Street Fighter franchises in a new bid to reign at retail.
