Move priced for profit

UPDATE: Sony has contacted MCV to say that the Move controller will retail for 24.99, the same price as the PlayStation Eye.

Having taken four years to get to the point where each PS3 console sold actually returns a profit, Sony has confirmed that it will be making money from the off on the Move motion controller.

We are pricing Move as if we are launching a new platform,” Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Develop.

So because the install base of Move will help third party studios create games for it, we benefit by helping those third-parties. But we are not losing money with each one we sell.”

In the UK the standalone Move controller will cost 39.99, with the Navigation controller retailing for around 29.99 and the PlayStation Eye 24.99. A Starter Pack including the Move wand, PlayStation Eye and starter disc will cost 49.99.

It will launch in the UK in the UK on September 15th – just over two month’s time.
