NASCAR fans given UK hope

Fans left disappointed by the confirmation that Activision’s NASCAR 2011 will not be released in the UK have been given a glimmer of hope by the game’s developer Eutechnyx.

The studio says that it now hopes the game will be made region free when released overseas.

Traditionally all PS3 games are region free (though DLC is not) while Xbox 360 varies from title to title.

"Ultimately, as the distributor, Activision make the call on which territory the game will be released in," Eutechnyx product manager Gregg Baker told Eurogamer.

"However, as a developer we can try and ensure that those wishing to purchase the game outside of the US are still given the opportunity.

"We will look into making sure there is no region locking on the game so fans can import the game and if the demand is high enough we may even look into the possibility of distributing the game ourselves in the UK."

Interestingly, Activision is only signed up as the distribution partner for NASCAR 2011. Eutechnyx owns the video games license so could yet choose to release the game in the UK via other methods.
