New engine for Elder Scrolls V

Bethesda community manager Nick Breckon has confirmed via Twitter that the fifth title in the studio’s popular Elder Scrolls fantasy series, Skyrim, will use a new in-house engine.

The game, officially revealed at the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards, was originally thought to be making use of the id Tech 5 engine, after ditching the Gamebryo engine the series had used since Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

However, Breckon yesterday confirmed that a new, as yet unnamed engine was built and powering the extent of the title already built.
