New PSP set for Euro unveil at Gamescom

Sony is expected to unveil key details regarding its Next Generation Portable at Gamescom 2011.

The latest details from the leading European games trade show, which will take place in August, suggest the headline-grabbing device could have a major presence at this year’s event.

Given that the NGP is due for release before the end of the year, it is likely that Sony will detail the handheld’s European launch plans at Gamescom, if it hasn’t already done so at E3 2011 in June.

There will be numerous innovations in the mobile games console sector this year,” said Olaf Wolters, CEO at Gamescom partners the BUI, the German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software.

After the PSP successor ‘Next Generation Portable’ has been advertised, we are of course curious to find out when and where the device will be presented to the public for the first time.”

For the past two years, Sony has used Gamescom as a platform for major announcements, such as the unveiling of the PS3 Slim and key software titles such as Resistance 3, Virtua Tennis 4 and Ratchet & Clank: All For One.

Gamescom 2011 will be held at Cologne’s Kolnmesse between August 17th and August 21st.
