Nintendo 3DS shifts ten million units in Japan

Nintendo’s handheld console the 3DS has sold more than 10 million units in Japan.

As reported by Famitsu, as of January 6th the 3DS and 3DS LL have sold 10,068,192 units.

The 3DS has taken 98 weeks to reach the number, while its predecessor the DS Lite took just 61 weeks to hit the milestone.

In the last week of December alone, the 3DS sold more than 400,000 units.

The handheld console was launched in Japan in February 2011, followed shortly by a March release in March 2011 across Europe and North America.

As of September 30th, worldwide sales for the 3DS were put at over 22 million.
