Nintendo reveals US install bases

Speaking to investors at a BMO Capitals Market presentation in New York, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed NPD’s total sales numbers for the current home consoles in the US.

As reported by GameSpot, the colourful exec says DS is the clear market leader with 43.1m units sold. Next up is Wii (30.4m), Xbox 360 (21.9m), PSP (17.7m) and PS3 (13.5m).

This gives Wii a lead of 8.5m units over Xbox 360 and 16.9m over PS3.

Note, though, that Xbox 360 enjoys a disproportionate lead over PS3 in the US where, like the UK, it is heavily favoured over Sony’s machine.

In October Nintendo president Saturo Iwata warned that should Wii sales fall flat this Q4 it would be very bad news for the platform.
