E3'09: New title set to launch on the Wii, features four-player co-op, set for 'holiday 2009'

Nintendo working on New Super Mario Bros

Nintendo has announced it is working on a new Mario game for the Wii.

New Super Mario Bros is a side-scrolling platformer akin to the DS edition of the game.

However, the unique selling point for the Wii version is how it allows four players to play at once, in a LittleBigPlanet-esque co-op set-up.

"We admit we haven’t figured out how to move Mario into the fourth dimension," said Cammie Dunaway, NOA’s executive vice president of sales & marketing.

"But ‘4’ is the key to Mario’s next surprise," she said, speaking of the game’s 4-player features.

"Miyamoto had been thinking about a new way to play Mario for 15 years. His answer is New Super Mario Brothers for Wii," she added.

The game will launch worldwide "holiday 2009".
