‘By deliberately not participating in the ‘culture of sales’, at least for a while, you risk losing out on revenue and visibility that those sales could have generated’

‘No Sale Promise’ campaign wants players to stop waiting for price cuts

Indies Tomasz Kaye and Richard Boeser have launched a new website with the aim of combatting the growing effects of ‘sales culture’.

The Chalo Chalo developers are advocating for the use of their ‘No Sale Promise’ badge by other studios.

The timed icon is designed to show players that a game won’t be reduced in price until a certain date – and thus convince them that they shouldn’t hold off for an early sale.

The logo also pledges that the game won’t appear in any other promotions, such as bundles.

However, this doesn’t mean that the title can’t increase in price – only that it will never decrease during the period.

“As a developer you might want to reassure your audience that they shouldn’t hold off buying your game now because there are no imminent discounts on the way,” Kaye and Boeser explained.

“By deliberately not participating in the ‘culture of sales’, at least for a while, you risk losing out on revenue and visibility that those sales could have generated. To offset that risk you could draw attention to your ‘no sale’ promise and present is as something that warrants attention in its own right.

“By adopting a shared emblem, we hope that developers can make their promises in a more compelling and easily understood way.”
