Now Ubisoft plays down Wii ambitions

Ahead of what increasingly looks like a very different year for Wii than it has had before, Ubisoft has become the latest publisher to say that its business ambitions are to centre around Xbox 360 and PS3 in the year ahead.

The 2010-11 line-up will be more focused on the Xbox 360 and PS3, the consoles which are expected to experience sustained sales growth in games for gamers in calendar 2010,” Ubisoft said as part of yesterday’s financial results.

The comments are almost a carbon copy of those made by Capcom France’s Antoine Seux last week, when the exec stated:

The Wii is still an important part of sales, but growth is on both Sony and Microsoft’s platforms. The Wii console is very much a family commitment. For us, Capcom, the future is the PS3 and the Xbox 360.”

Capcom later retracted the statement.
