NPD: PS3s run of form continues

The sky’s the limit for PS3 at the moment with Sony enjoying an 11th consecutive month of PS3 hardware sales growth in the US market.

Hardware sales reached 304.8k in June, an increase of 85 per cent year-on-year. Year-to-date sales are currently 1,591,000, a 42 per cent year-on-year increase.

PS3 software sales were up 17 per cent annually and 42 per cent so far in 2010.

However, with Xbox 360 also maintaining strong momentum Sony’s console can’t afford to let up if it hopes to catch Microsoft’s machine in the region. PS3’s US lifetime sales stand at 12,719,696 units – significantly less than Xbox 360’s 20,555,886.

Video games are fuelling new innovation for the entire consumer entertainment category and today’s numbers are a testament to the big impact we’ll play this holiday,” SCEA’s Patrick Seybold stated.

With a healthy flow of PS3s back in the channel, and eleven months of PS3’s consecutive growth behind us, we’re confident the PS3 will become the main entertainment hub for many new consumers this year and provide countless reasons to congregate in the living room.”
