PaRappa the Rapper and Gitaroo Man creators team up

A rhythm action dream team is working on a brand new mystery project.

PaRappa the Rapper creator Masaya Matsuura and Gitaroo Man creator Keiichi Yano have joined forces for a new game currently going under the glorious name of Project Rap Rabbit.

Details are thin on the ground, although there is a teaser video that you can see below.

The game’s Facebook page has promised that "key gameplay mechanics" and "planned formats" will be announced in the near future.

Masaya Matsuur has a rich history in development, having worked on some of the rhythm action genre’s most notable and bizarre titles. His credits include not only PaRappa but also PSOne cult hit Vib-Ribbon and lesser known classic UmJammer Lammy.

Also on his CV are PaRappa the Rapper 2 and the super obscure Vib-Ribbon follow up Vib-Ripple (which saw users importing pictures via a USB memory stick and then ‘bounce’ off them in time to music!), as well as a number of Tamagotchi titles.

Keiichi Yano’s credit list is smaller, but perhaps features a few names that will be more recognisable to a wider audience. As well as 2002 PS2 release Gitaroo Man, his work includes Xbox hit Sudeki, cult DS outing and import favourite Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, PSP sequel Gitaroo Man Lives and DS mainstream hit Elite Beat Agents.

He also worked on Xbox 360 karaoke title Lips.

The rhythm action genre had had a rough few years but it’s impossible to think that at the very least the pair won’t come up with something delightfully obscure and delightfully overtly Japanese.

Keep your eyes (and ears) open for more details shortly.
