Patch to remove From Dust DRM

You have to wonder why it bothered in the first place.

Having once seemingly learnt its lesson regarding the DRM it implements on its PC games, for reasons unbeknown to anyone other than itself Ubisoft decided to re-enter the battleground by including always-on” DRM in recent release From Dust.

And fans were more than willing to express their irritation.

Now, just a week after the game’s release, Ubisoft has said that it is to remove the DRM completely.

Our tech teams are working on a patch that should release in approximately two weeks that will eliminate the need for any online authentication,” a forum post admitted.

This development time is required as we are working to ensure that those who have already started the game, and who’s progress is currently saved on our servers, will receive and save their game information locally.

Once the patch is ready, players who already have the game will automatically receive the update on their next login and subsequent game sessions will be 100 per cent offline.”

But in a stark illustration of the wrath DRM evokes in PC gamers, the response to the news has been less than favourable.

Sorry guys but damage is done. I still demand refunds,” one poster wrote. It’s not only about DRM that make the game unplayable. It’s about lying to your customers and punishing customers that paid you.
