PlayStation TV discontinued in Europe and US

Sony has confirmed the official discontinuation of its PlayStation TV microconsole in two territories.

The platform holder told GameSpot that shipments of the device were stopped for both Europe and the Americas at the end of 2015. However, despite reports to the contrary yesterday, shipments will continue in Asia for the time being.

The console was only launched at the end of 2014.

"PlayStation TV shipments were terminated at the end of 2015 in SCEA and SCEE," a spokesperson said. "Shipment is still continuing in SCE Asia (as of the end of February 2016), and we have nothing to announce regarding the timing of termination.

"PS Store for PlayStation TV will continue to be accessible, and PlayStation TV-related information will continue to be updated. In terms of applications/service for PlayStation TV, we will make further communications to users as necessary."

It now seems like only matter of time until time is finally called on PlayStation TV altogether. The platform, effectively, is now dead.
