PS3 predicted to win Xmas console war

A new survey has suggested the PS3 could be the best-selling console this Christmas.

According to a study by online retailer Kelkoo and market research firm GameVision Europe, UK consumers are expected to buy 1.8 million new consoles by Christmas, driven by the launch of PlayStation Move and Kinect for Xbox 360.

Of these new console sales, it has been predicted that Sony’s PS3 will account for 750,000 units sold or 41 per cent.

If the format manages this, it will end Nintendo’s three-year streak at No.1, with Wii as the biggest-selling console each Christmas since December 2007. This year, Wii is expected to shift 650,000 units.

The report also predicts that 1.6 million existing PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will upgrade their console with the new motion controller, with Sony once again ahead of the pack. Move is expected to sell 850,000 units, while Kinect will follow with a respectable 700,000.
