PS3 price cut confirmed

Sony has officially announced its long expected PS3 price cut during its Gamescom press conference.

The new PS3 Slim will cost €299.99, $299 and 29,980 yen, a cost that also applies to the current 80GB model. A UK price has yet to be confirmed.

The cut will take effect from tommorrow (August 19th).

Intense speculation around a PS3 price cut has been building for months, with retailers telling MCV last week that stock for the current 80GB model had dried up.

This was followed by Asda dropping the price of the machine by 50.
