PSP2 being showcased to devs

Yesterday MCV asked ‘Where is the PSP2?‘. The answer appears to be that it’s in the hands of a number of key developers as Sony readies itself for a 2011 launch.

That’s according to Eurogamer which claims to have word from three separate development sources. They say it’s comparable in size to the PSP-3000 and has touch controls. The trick, though, is that these are found on the rear of the unit.

The machine will once again shun the use of any physical media beyond SD (or MemoryStick Duo) cards, though it’s understood that the decision to fully ditch discs was only recently made by Sony.

The platform holder is said to have several first party demos with which to demonstrate the machine and has already nailed down a business model for the device.

And you can bet your life on it being based on the iTunes model.

Eurogamer speculates that the device will be launched by the end of 2011, which is later than had been recently estimated.
