Sales up 77% at THQ

American publisher THQ has reported a year-on-year sales increase for the quarter ending June 30th 2009, with revenue jumping 77 per cent to $243.5m.

Net income hitting $6.4m – in the same period last year the company suffered a $27.2m loss.

The big successes for the publisher included first person shooter Red Faction: Guerrilla and fighting sim UFC 2009: Undisputed. THQ now expects to maintain profitability for the fiscal year ending March, with its Q2 revenue now predicted to hit between $85-$95m.

THQ chief executive Brian Farrell said of the results: The results show a vast improvement from a year ago and evidence of a dramatic turnaround here at THQ.”

However, analysts have expressed concern about THQ’s forecast of lower than expected revenues for the coming quarter, where it has no major releases scheduled.
