Format holder looks to further boost development activity in India

SCE could open Indian development studio

Sony is planning to further boost its already-announced commitment to games development in India – and could even open an internal studio of its own in the territory.

That’s according to a report in DNA India, where Indian country manager at SCE Atindriya Bose says the company is boosting its production output.

“The future of the Indian game development market will depend on the quality of the game developers who are starting at a zero base,” Bose said, adding that Sony was looking to further encourage these early stage developers with loaned devkits.

Sony has a local disc manufacturing and distribution facility and has already partnered with five Indian studios to develop local content for consumers in the region.

Bose, the report says, claimed that Sony could have ‘broken’ the market within three years, by which time it could have even opened its own studio in the region.
