Shadow of the Colossus: The Movie

Sony’s cult IP Shadow of the Colossus is to be turned into a movie.

Joystiq reports that Josh Trank, the director of 2012 sci-fi release Chronicle, has been appointed as the director. Potential writers are currently being interviewed.

Trank is said to have requested the job directly – and it’s no surprise to see Sony keen to accept, what with project being rumoured on and off for over three years.

SOTC is both ideally suited and strangely unsuited to the silver screen treatment.

On the one hand, it’s a game with tremendous atmosphere. The melancholic undercurrent of love and loss – as well as the huge frickin’ monsters! – is excellent source material.

But on the other hand it will need a significant expansion to work on the screen. The game has very little dialogue and is, effectively simply a series of boss battles. Expanding this with enough variety to interest the viewer will be quite a creative task.
