Tech could be revealed at Tokyo Game Show later this month

Sony developing virtual reality headset for PS4

Sony is working on a virtual reality headset for the PS4, according to reports.

A developer "familiar with Sony’s plans" has told CVG that Evolution Studios is using the tech for its PS4 game DriveClub.

Sony was allegedly set to reveal the virtual reality headset at Gamescom, but changed its plans at the last minute.

It has now been claimed the headset will be revealed at the Tokyo Game Show later this month. Eurogamer however claims that the tech will be unveiled in 2014.

The move to virtual reality comes as the Oculus Rift is receiving much praise within the game industry for its great strides in VR.

The firm had a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign raising $2.4 million, and in June raised a further $16 million in funding.

It remains to be seen however how consumers will react to virtual reality gaming, and how expensive the technology will be.
