Sony expected to report profit

Sony’s financial Q1 is set to bring with it a significant boost in operating profit, according to a report in Japanese paper Nikkei, as spotted by Andriasang.

It claims that the period will see an operating profit anywhere between YEN 10m and YEN 30bn for the quarter ending June 30th. In the same period in 2009 Sony reported an operating loss of YEN 25.7bn.

Amongst the many plusses for the company was a significant cost-cutting drive in its mobile and games divisions, spearheaded no doubt by the welcome arrival of profitability in the PlayStation division.

Other strong performers include strong sales in China, improved performance from its SLR camera range and excellent sales of Sony LCD TVs both in Japan and in other global territories.
