Sony to launch slimmer PS4 later this year, report

One analyst is predicting that a PlayStation 4 Slim console is on the way.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Macquarie Securities’ Damian Thong said that Sony may be introducing a slimmer version of the PS4.

Thong also said that this new bit of kit could be released as early as September at Tokyo Games Show. Sony refused to comment on this when asked by WSJ.

Thus far there has been no word on the possibility of a PlayStation 4 Slim. The platform holder, however, did announce the existence of an upgraded PS4, dubbedNeo, in June after months of rumours about such a device.

Meanwhile, rival Microsoft has announced a console that is slimmer and cheaper in the Xbox One S, as well as its upcoming and more powerful Scorpio machine.

To date, PlayStation 4 has sold more than 40m units, with Sony predicting another 20m to be sold in this fiscal year.
