Final Fantasy studio hiring for major systems overhaul

Square Enix building â??next generationâ?? engine

Square Enix is currently hiring developers and programmers to work on a new game engine project.

In an advert going out on Japanese TV, the company has declared that they are seeking a new game engine system programmer, 3D graphics core programmer, online system programmer, Windows application programmer, rendering programmer, server/DB programmer, plug-in programmer, technical artist and technical writer.

The advert mentions that available posts are Tokyo based, and require experience with all current major platforms "to meet the quality demanded of games in the coming years.”

"At Square Enix, in anticipation of the appearance of next generation platforms, we’ve started development on a new generation game engine for competing beyond the level of the strong developers throughout the world,” it states.

The character of Cloud from Square Enix’ Final Fantasy VII features in the advert, which has lead to online speculation about the direction of the company’s next project.
