Tencent takes number 1 spot on 2016 top-earning mobile publishers list

Mobile analytics outfit App Annie have released their figures on the 52 highest earning app store publishers from between January 1 and December 31 of 2016. It’s been a year of significant change at the top of the mobile chart, and now, everything’s coming up Tencent.

The Chinese conglomerate has jumped from sixth last year to first this year, which can be blamed quite solidly on their $8.6 billion purchase of the Clash of Clans creator Supercell this summer. Supercell themselves have finished second on the list, with another Chinese outfit, mobile giant Netease, jumped from ninth place to round out the top three.

In general, Asian Pacific publishers dominated the charts, with the majority of those on the list coming from China, Japan and the United States, with Supercell and Netmarble the only countries in the top 10 that doesn’t hail from these three countries. Supercell has now been acquired by Tencent of course, so the top 10 is looking very favourably to the Asian-Pacific region.
