The Crew is locked to 30fps on PC, is ‘aiming’ for 60fps

Ubisoft’s rocky relationship with PC gamers looks set to continue.

A publisher rep on the company’s forum has confirmed that upcoming racer The Crew will run in 1080p with 30 frames per second on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and will support up to 5760x1080p on PC for triple screen set-ups”.

A user on the forum has discovered a way to unlock 60fps, but at the expense of compromised controls.

Added the publisher: Right now the team is focusing on providing an optimal experience for all players. You can unlock [60fps] in the file you’ve found, but it may affect the game’s performances. Your call.”

The news comes after a string of issues with the publisher’s PC titles that included a string of complaints regarding its uPlay DRM system, the poor performance of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag on some machines – complete with some choice comments from the game’s associate producer – and unresolved stuttering in the PC version or Watch Dogs.

In February last year uPlay director Stephanie Perotti said that the publisher wanted to improve out relationship with the PC community” and earlier this month at Gamescom European boss Alain Corre said that it is committed to improving the optimisation of our games for each platform on which they’re released – including PC”.

UPDATE: The publisher has since backtracked on its statement, claiming that 60fps IS a target it is working towards.

"The reason you could alter the FPS in the config file is because our team is actually working on getting 60fps for PC," it now says. "The reason why it hasn’t been communicated before this is because we didn’t want to make a promise we couldn’t deliver on.

"But read this correctly: We are aiming at a 60fps on PC for the launch of the game and the actual Beta doesn’t represent the final game."
